Jonathan Wilson ~ “La Isla Bonita” (Madonna)

Back in 2007, West Coast producer/session man Jonathan Wilson contributed a version of the 80s FM radio hit “La Isla Bonita” to a Madonna tribute album, titled Through The Wilderness. While that doesn’t sound all that interesting, Wilson’s re-imagining of the tune takes the core structure of the song and throws all of it out the window. Barely clinging to the melody, Wilson refurbishes the song with his laid-back West Coast touch and a psyched-out guitar intro, which as Aquarium Drunkard points out, is quite reminiscent of the lead-in to “The Other One.” Simply put, it’s a stunningly raw take on an otherwise average tune.
